Southern Minnesota Happenings

The Olde Pine Theater OPENS this weekend! This is historic!!
The Odd Couple: Opening on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m., Neil Simon's The Odd Couple, at the recently renovated Olde Pine Theater in historic Pine Island, (across from the bank) sponsored by Pine Area People for the Arts.
The Odd Couple will feature a number of veteran actors from the area; some have been in more than a dozen musicals and serious dramas. Tom Ersland, who plays Felix Ungar, has had leads in many previous shows, and is also a speech and drama coach at Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS...plus a day job at Mayo!! Randy Torgeson is taking on the role of Oscar Madison. Others are Myra Murray, Sue Langins, Dave Sween, Eric Lohmann, Gary Wees and D.J. Collins.
Show dates are Saturdays, Oct. 11, 18, and 25 at 7 p.m. Friday Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. and two Sunday matinees, Oct. 12 and 19 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $10 and are available at the door, or in advance at the Pine Island Bank.

Harmony for Mayo. NOON FREE>>Oct. 13: Soprano Carla Thelen Hanson will perform classical Scandinavian music with pianist Ainhoa Urkijo in Hage Atrium, subway level, Siebens Building, 100 Second Ave. S.W. Rochester  Thelen Hanson has performed in leading roles with opera companies nationwide. She recently performed as Tosca with the New York City Opera. She is also scheduled to perform the role of Elektra with the Nashville Opera. Urkijo is a native of Bilbao, Spain. Both performers are faculty members at Rochester Community and Technical College.
